NHTSA investigating fuel leak on Aztek and Rendezvous

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is in the process of investigating close to 280k 2001 to 2004 Pontiac Aztec and Buick Rendezvous SUVs after consumers filed 213 complaints with the organization.
Apparently, a faulty weld on the fuel tanks' filler pipe is causing a leak, allowing either gasoline fumes or fuel itself to escape from the pipe.
The announcement by NHTSA is part of the second stage of the investigation, however, no recall has been issued thus far.

If I were the fuel, I'd try to run away from the Aztek, too.

I think this was done intentionally to possibly rid the world of Aztecs via fire...just a thought

As I get older, the Aztec doesn't seem to be as bad as I thought before lookswise. It was still junky though. The Rendezvous never had a chance.

Funny, considering the fuel gauge on my rendezvous died last month.

Yes the Aztek is ugly, but you have to admit it was ahead of it's time. Look at all the CUV's (Completely Ugly Vehicle) out now, their not too far off from what the Aztek was.

Damn, my grandmother has one. She's a GM unioner's widow, gets a huge discount when she buys cars from them. Funny enough, my grandfather only bought Fords when he was alive.

I'm just curious, but out of those 213 complaints, how many need to be verified as true for the NHTSA to issue a recall?

I guess Darwin's law applies to cars too.

I have the 02 Rendevous, When i top off the tank the check engine light comes on occasisonally. But will go off when I'm down to a 1/4 tank I have had this checked and it shows approximately 7 diiferent sensors need repalcing which is not the case as the vehicle runs great when this occurs. I was told by the dealership that it could be a fayulty gas cap.

I am laughing all the way to the bank. Because everyone thinks they are ugly. I was able to get a rugged AWD vehicle, that is not a van, fully loaded. By that I mean, Kick but stereo, heads-up display, 3000lb towing capacity and quieter than an infinity 300 even WITH a bike on top. Also, with well under 50,000 miles for $13,000. It's now paid off! How much are your guys payments. Haaa Haaa Ha! Good thing the Honda Element and Scion box cars came out. Now the Aztek doesn't look so bad!
